Medical Services Adds Additional Test Kits To Its Inventory

Medical Services International Inc. (Pinksheets: MSITF) is pleased to announce that it has completed testing and development of a Syphilis rapid test kit.  The Company through its R&D facility in the United States developed and tested the Syphilis test kit and has begun to manufacture and ship the test kits to distributors. The development of this test kit came as a result of requests from both distributors and regulatory agencies asking that the Company use its technology to bring a syphilis test kit to market. The techniques developed during the progression of our other VScan test kits were instrumental in the rapid development of the Syphilis test kit. The Company has already begun shipping the Syphilis test kit for use in several countries.

Over the last 10 years HIV and syphilis are increasingly appearing in tandem. Transmitted by sexual contact and advanced through risky behavior, syphilis causes a breakdown of the skin and mucosal membranes that makes infection with the HIV virus more likely. The World Health Organization says that approximately 12 million new cases of syphilis appear each year. One- third of these cases are in sub-Saharan Africa, one-third are in South and Southeast Asia, and one-fourth are in Latin American and the Caribbean. These areas coincide with the areas where Medical Services has been developing its distribution network  and has received regulatory approval of its VScan HIV 1&2 test kits. Elimination of syphilis would have far reaching public health implication because it would remove two devastating consequences of the disease -increased likelihood of HIV transmission and compromised ability to have healthy babies.

Medical Services believes that adding a syphilis test kit to our inventory is a perfect match with the HIV test kit. The program that the Company participates in with regulatory agencies - testing for HIV in pregnant women - will also benefit from this program.

There is a substantial market worldwide for a rapid test kit for syphilis that is cost effective, accurate, requires no refrigeration and is very fast (under 10 minutes). Early detection of syphilis is important in the overall treatment of the syphilis bacterium.

Once the marketing program starts it is anticipated that the Company will sell in excess of 4,000,000 syphilis test kits per year.
